Education Initiatives

    New Hampshire’s Department of Education has a mission to provide leadership and services which promote equal educational opportunities and quality practices and programs that enable New Hampshire residents to become fully productive members of society.

    Leadership The challenges of today and for the 21st century are requiring education to change. The NH Department of Education has organized to model this change and to help districts meet these challenges. Current efforts to assist school districts with educational reform include:

     Best Schools Initiative

  • NH Educational Improvement and Assessment Program (NHEIAP)
  • Assistance to districts in the development of local improvement plans
  • School-to-Work opportunities
  • Coordination of federal and state programs to enhance student learning
  • Services Department members work with policy makers, administrators, groups of educators, and others to strengthen and improve education by:

  • Technical support and assistance in complying with state and federal law
  • Administration of state and federal funds
  • Certification of educators
  • Statistical and information services
  • Direct services to constituencies

    Thirty-two school districts (comprising nearly one quarter of all local schools) have received the ”What Parents Want” award from the independent service organization SchoolMatch, reflecting the extraordinary level of parental involvement and satisfaction in Granite State schools.
