     Area Highways

Stratham lies in Rockingham County which is served by an extensive roadway network, as shown on the Rockingham County Region Map. Major north-south highways include Interstates 93 and 95, NH Routes 16 (Spaulding Tpk), 28, 102, 125 and US Route 1. Interstate 95 (I-95) serves as the major transportation corridor for year-round and tourist traffic between southern and northern coastal New England and the Maritime Provinces of Canada. Its link to NH 16 (Spaulding Turnpike) in Portsmouth also allows it to serve as a vital link for travel to the Dover/Somersworth/Rochester area, as well as the eastern portion of northern New Hampshire, including the Lakes Region and White Mountain Region. Interstate 93 (I- 93), located in the western part of the County, runs from the Massachusetts state line to Londonderry where it exits Rockingham County and continues on to Manchester, Concord and, ultimately, to l-91 in Vermont. NH Route 125 serves an increasing volume of local and inter-state traffic from the Massachusetts line northerly through Rockingham County and beyond. All three highways link with Interstate 495 in Massachusetts, providing businesses and residents with access to the Boston metropolitan area.

The area offers a solid east-west highway network, with access provided primarily by NH Route 101 across the center of the County, NH 111 in the south, and US Route 4 across the northern portion of the County. The recent expansion of NH 101 completed the widening of the highway to a four-lane limited access facility between Manchester and Exeter, and has significantly improved the safety and efficiency of east-west travel in the central part of the County. Completion of the widening project east to Hampton is scheduled for 2001. The completion of this project will generate new economic development opportunities in the immediate area in and around Stratham.
