WIGGIN MEMORIAL LIBRARY

The Wiggin memorial Library has a lively heritage. It has grown and changed along with the town, consistently providing materials and services to meet the needs of Stratham residents. The library provides something for all the community, story times for younger children, a summer reading program, research areas for high school and college students and adult recreational books plus tapes, CD's  and DVD's.

The Wiggin Memorial Library is located adjacent to the Stratham Town offices in the heart of the town. Its mission is to connect the people whom live, work or attend school in town to the world of information and ideas. This is accomplished by being responsive to all segments of the population from seniors to children.

The library is open six days and five nights per week with a staff of nine including the librarian, a children's librarian and a newly appointed teen librarian. It has a total media collection of almost 37,000 items. In addition to the reference section, these include books, magazines, videotapes, compact disks, art prints, and books on tape. Museum passes are also available to three Boston and eight New Hampshire museums. The staff has also researched and recommended web sites for various interests from gardens to Native Americans.

This wealth of recourses has resulted in extraordinary usage of the facility: fully 71% of the population are registered library cardholders versus the national norm of 25-30%. Circulation per capita is 13.9 versus the New Hampshire average of 7.4. Total programs (children, teen and adult) presented to the library increased 122% in 1999 versus 1997. Interlibrary loans and borrowings have also increased 33% from 1997.
