The Port Authority develops and manages the state's tidal waters in order to stimulate commerce and shipment of freight through the port. The Port Authority also cooperates with other state and federal agencies in planning the maintenance, development and use of the port, harbors and navigable rivers.
The Port of New Hampshire has been consistently upgrading and expanding its facilities over the last several years to accommodate the ever- increasing ocean and coastal traffic, and this year was no exception. Once again, as we begin the 21st century, the port is committed to its goal of contributing to the state’s economy and job creation both on the waterfront and else- where as well as working cooperatively to meet the needs of business wherever possible. The Master Plan 2000 offers the port several viable alternatives from which to reach that goal and we will be exploring those opportunities together. Located on the Piscataqua River, the port is conveniently situated with easy access to I-95 and Pease International Tradeport, with Boston K Maine rail line as well as a heliport on site. Eleven acres of cargo yard, two deep-water cargo wharves, and two ware- houses totaling 56,000 square feet are available to service liners, bulk carriers, container ships, feeder vessels, and barges as well as docking facilities for passenger/cruise ships. In addition, the port administers the state’s only Foreign Trade Zone (#81), which includes 10 acres at the Market Street Terminal, 175 acres at Portsmouth Industrial Park, 50 acres at Crosby Industrial Park (Dover, NH), 1,400 acres at the Manchester Airport, and 2,000 acres at Pease International Tradeport. Maintaining the development and management of the state’s tidal waters fosters commerce and the shipment of industrial and commercial products through the state. The port also administers the NH Fishing Industry’s Revolving Loan Program, which is set up to loan funds to the local fishing community to aid in the development of salt- water fisheries and associated industries.
